Year 3 children have been busy using the LEGO Education Spike learning platform in their STEM project which involved producing a model depicting insect pollinators at work: transferring pollen from one flower to another.
There were some ‘original’ coding choices of rotating direction and speed and the teaching team enjoyed watching butterflies being wonderfully efficient at their pollen transfer, although – thanks to the incredible speed of rotation with which some were programmed – they were undoubtedly denied their opportunity to enjoy the nectar!
The children’s next challenge was to create a model showing one of the ways of seed dispersal that we have studied in class: wind, water, animal fur or animal excretion.
Both tasks were greatly enjoyed; the children collaborated well and showed great kindness and respect in their new working partnerships.
