We had a wonderful start to the week in Year 1 on Monday when a French pâtisserie chef, Théo, spent the morning teaching us how to make delicious things!

Everyone watched his demonstration carefully before following a recipe to measure out flour, water, salt and yeast ready to mix together in a bowl. We could hear some amazing adjectives as children described what the dough felt like and saw some funny faces as they tried to get the sticky dough off their fingers.

Whilst the dough was left to rise, Théo showed us how to make ‘Chaussons aux pommes’. There was a great deal of concentration as everyone rolled out the pastry, cut circles and carefully added apple compote before folding the pastry over and sealing the edges. Creating individual patterns on top after brushing it with beaten egg was fun too.

After this, everyone was surprised to see how much bigger the dough was and they enjoyed rolling it into a sausage shape to make a mini-baguette.

Théo had some help from Miss P with the cooking as it took a long time with only one oven but we were all very pleased to take home such tasty treats. We hope the families managed to have a taste too!
