Last night, our Junior and Senior Jazz Bands took to the stage for this year’s Jazz Night, ‘Bruno Mars & Friends’.
From the opening moments, the evening was full of energy and personality, with plenty of stagecraft alongside the music, including amazing improvised solos and a Super Bowl drum solo to launch the second Senior Band set. The Junior Band were also joined by dancers for a lively performance of APT by Bruno Mars and ROSÉ, bringing the piece vividly to life.
The concert showcased a wide range of musicians, from those performing in their first Jazz Night to students who have been part of the jazz programme for several years. Across both bands – with Year 5 and 6 pupils in the Junior Band and students from Years 8 to 12 in the Senior Band – there were confident performances, a number of standout solos and a real sense of enjoyment in their music performance.
The evening also marked a farewell to the bass player in the Senior Jazz Band, whose contribution over the years has been greatly valued. He will be missed.
Vocalists were on top form and the whole show closed with the Senior Band playing Uptown Funk, complimented with a Year 6 dance troupe. Both dance groups were prepared by Mrs S.
Well done to all the students involved for an engaging and highly enjoyable evening of live music.
Thank you to everyone who attended and to Mr B and our Senior School volunteers, who manned the bar and collected donations for STAND, raising an incredible total of €1,025. Thank you to our attendees for your generosity.
