Year 5 children have learnt how to tell the time in French and have been practising in teams by matching analogue clocks to written times. They found it challenging at first but now they can confidently say the time in French.

The Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children have been learning about Mardi Gras, a French celebration that took place this Tuesday. To prepare for our special French assembly last Friday, the children decorated large paper bags to wear as carnival costumes, made masks and learnt poems and songs.

To conclude our Mardi Gras topic, Year 1 learnt the names of various costumes and practised saying “Je me déguise en…”. They also learnt songs to help them remember the new vocabulary.

Our French Ambassadors learnt their lines to introduce the celebration to our Key Stage 2 audience, after which the parade began in the hall, filled with dancing, singing and confetti. Everyone was very proud to parade and showcase their knowledge. Our French Ambassadors were particularly impressive and performed extremely well.

They designed and made their own clowns which will be added to our large Mardi Gras display in the atrium.

Well done, Year 1, for being such fantastic French learners!

After learning about the various reasons why French people eat crêpes on 2nd February through videos, articles and class discussions, Year 6 children worked in groups to make their own videos explaining this French tradition and the associated superstitions.

We then watched the videos together and provided constructive feedback to help them improve their work for next time.

Year 3 have been learning how to name and describe all the members of the family. To bring this topic to life, they carefully modelled the faces of each family member out of clay.

They will soon present their families to the class, describing who each person is and sharing a few details about them which will give them a wonderful opportunity to practise speaking in French.
