From the 16th to 19th February, the Year 10 and new Year 11 GCSE Geographers set off to Spain to carry out compulsory Geography fieldwork, which they will be examined on in Paper 3.

On the day of our arrival, after a delicious lunch at the hotel, we went to the beach in Platja d’Aro to compare the coastal processes either side of a tombolo and to complete field sketches based on the processes of erosion and weathering.

The next day was action packed with a trip to several sites along the River Fluvia to carry out our Physical Geography Investigation. Students had fun getting into the river & measuring width, depth, velocity and bedload amongst others. They also had chance to visit the stunning Garrotxa Volcanic Zone with over 40 dormant volcanoes. We had an informative tour round the youngest volcano called Croxcat.

Wednesday was spent looking at urban regeneration in Girona and investigating how successful it is as a tourist town. From shop surveys to questionnaires, students learnt lots about different sampling techniques.

On our final day, we were able to explore Barcelona, and particularly the Gothic Quarter with a great tour. There was chance to get some souvenirs before returning to France after a very enjoyable and educational trip.

Well done to the students who were motivated and worked very hard to build upon their geographical knowledge, skills and understanding. Some of them have written feedback which is listed below.
