Our Reception children had a wonderful time exploring technology this week.
During their Computing lesson, they played an exciting game of Cat and Mouse. They visited the computer room, where they practised using keyboards and mice to log on independently. They experimented with a simple drawing programme, which was challenging at first but great fun! They also used their early programming skills to operate some friendly remote-controlled cats – a hugely popular choice during free play and a lovely way to consolidate the skills introduced by Mrs R.
In Maths, the children explored the stacking abilities of different 3D shapes, working together to build the tallest towers possible. This activity sparked plenty of discussion, teamwork and creative problem-solving. They also had great fun measuring dinosaurs with Unifix cubes.
Every Reception day begins with a lively game of ‘Countdown’, in which the children have 30 seconds to guess the helper of the day’s name from a jumble of vowels and consonants. It is a brilliant way to start the morning, getting everyone thinking, laughing and ready to learn.
