Children’s Mental Health Week runs from February 9th to 13th in the UK and this year is on the theme of belonging: ‘This is my place’.
Our Welfare prefects helped to raise awareness of this important issue during assembly this week with a reminder to all pupils from Years 7 to 13 about our collective responsibility to help everyone to feel a sense of belonging to our school community. They reminded pupils of where they can find help and support in school.
Tutors helped to raise awareness of mental health issues through discussion in House groups and through promoting kindness as part of our Character Development programme.
We hope that this promotes discussion at home on the subject of mental health.
For parents, supporting children through the teenage years can be stressful and knowing how to start a difficult conversation is not easy.
Dr Hohnen, who visited us earlier this year, as well as the children’s mental health charity Place2Be have some advice on supporting your child to feel safe and well.

The UK-based charity Young Minds publishes a series of helpful guides online designed to support parents, available at: https://www.youngminds.org.uk/parent
The Welfare Team (prefects and staff) are available throughout the day in school to listen and support any young person who may need it. Please encourage your child to talk to us about their concerns either in person or via email. If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please contact the Welfare Team for support and advice via email.
