The Year 5 children made a fantastic start at their first bread-making session.

Following the basic bread recipe independently in groups, they weighed carefully using different measures for different ingredients, watched the bubbling yeast fermenting, stirred, kneaded vigorously, and then shaped their very first loaves of bread into many creative forms; from plaits to baguettes to heart-shaped buns and even a teddy bear!

There was great excitement to see how much their bread had risen after proving and even greater excitement to smell and taste the final products after cooling from the oven.

Year 5 will next be preparing their own recipes for their second bake and are looking forward to doing it all again!
