There was a certain amount of apprehension amongst the coaching staff when the majority of the Senior Basketball squad left the school last year, having finished their A levels in the summer.

However, if last weekend’s performance is anything to go by, our new recruits will certainly measure up to their predecessors and might even surpass them.

The squad travelled to Brussels last weekend for two matches hosted by St John’s International School. Our first match was against the hosts. We lost that game 53 – 29. The team kept up with St John’s until the fourth quarter, but the fact that we were only able to take seven players to Brussels started to take its toll and the team tired in the last quarter.

We won the second game against Antwerp 40 – 31. We were losing by ten points at half time but the team put up a spirited fight and came back to win in impressive fashion.

Our three veterans from last year’s team formed a formidable backbone for the current squad which allowed our newcomers to find their feet and flourish. F was the only girl playing at the event and her incisive passing caught the eye of everyone present.

Many thanks to our coach. We are all looking forward to the next fixtures.
