All children in Years 3 to 5 have been enjoying Performance Poetry in their English lessons this week.

Each class has learnt to recite one or more poems aloud, focusing on accuracy and understanding and putting lots of expression into their recitations.

Next week, each year group will hold a Poetry by Heart competition, in which children who wish to can perform one of the poems in front of their year group. The classes will be judged by their teachers and the winner will be invited to represent the BSP at the English Language Schools Association Poetry by Heart competition in March. In this competition, pupils from Anglophone schools in and around Paris compete against children of a similar age and the BSP has had several previous winners.

We always find that this is an extremely valuable experience for the children and hope to have as many participants as possible this time!
