Over the last few weeks, some of our Year 13 students visited the Junior School to take part in a special “Gather and Chat” session during the lunch time; celebrating the importance of home languages. The older students had the wonderful opportunity to speak in their first languages with younger children who also shared their home languages.
The room buzzed with conversations in many different tongues, from greetings, games, stories and conversations. The younger pupils were excited to meet older role models who speak the same languages they do and the Year 13 students generously gave up their time.
Events like “Gather and Chat” highlight the richness of our school community and remind us how valuable it is to maintain and celebrate every child’s home language.
By speaking together in the languages that matter most to them, students of all ages strengthened their connections, built their confidence and celebrated the diversity that makes our school so special.
