Every day, all across the world, hundreds of children under 5 years old die from diarrhoea linked to unsafe water, sanitation and poor hygiene.
During today’s breaktime, Year 7 raised a fantastic €266 from a cake sale for their charity, Toilet Twinning. This is enough to build almost fous toilets in areas of the world where they are most needed.
Without proper sanitation, people are more likely to suffer from related diseased and become trapped in a vicious cycle as a result. These illnesses prevent people from working, cause children to miss school, put financial pressure on families as they struggle to pay for medicines and food, consequently falling into debt.
The charity Toilet Twinning funds hygiene education via community-led workshops and helps pay for local materials so that families and communities can build their own toilets.
Thank you to everyone for creating and buying today’s fabulous ‘toilet-themed’ bakes.
