This year’s Drama trip to London was a resounding success and my own personal favourite so far! On 20th November, 27 pupils and 3 staff from the BSP boarded the Eurostar, London bound. After we had arrived and checked in to our hotel, we all went to Pizza Hut for our dinner before going on to the Gielgud Theatre to watch the musical ‘Oliver!’. The musical was fantastic and gave me a lot of ideas for our own upcoming musical of ‘Oliver! Jr’ in March. The pupils sang and clapped along to the famous songs.

On Friday 21st we went to Pineapple Studios for a dance workshop with a professional dancer who taught the pupils the dance to ‘Consider Yourself’ from the musical they had seen. Everyone worked hard and I was extremely impressed by how quickly they learnt the routine. After dancing it was time for a tour of the Royal Opera House. The tour was amazing and we even saw part of a rehearsal of ‘The Nutcracker’ ballet which made the atmosphere very festive. We were then extremely lucky to see the wonderful Dame Darcey Bussell (famous ballerina and former Strictly Come Dancing judge) rehearsing with two of the lead dancers. The pupils then had free time in Covent Garden and shopped till they dropped! After a delicious burger at Byron Burger, we then went to The Duchess Theatre to see the hilarious ‘Play That Goes Wrong’. Our pupils were all on the first two rows and were interacted with during the show which only made it even more funny. After the show the pupils took selfies with one of the actors and then we made our way back to the hotel.

The final day began with a trip to The British Museum where the Year 12 had been given a task to research The Parthenon before we begin studying the set text ‘Lysistrata’, an ancient Greek comedy. The other pupils were able to go and look at the exhibits or just stay warm in the café. It was then time to board the train home, with tired eyes and lots of happy memories. I would like to thank all the pupils who came on the trip for their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm, it made it extremely enjoyable for your teachers, who also had an amazing time. Let’s see if next year can top this one!
