The BSP has been commemorating Remembrance Day. In the week leading up to the occasion, poppies and bleuets were sold to raise money for the Royal British Legion and Bleuet de France charities.

KS3 pupils participated in creating an art installation as part of the school’s commemoration, for which they made ceramic poppies, spray painted red; further student volunteers helping to assemble the installation and add the finishing touches.

On Monday 10th November at break time, staff and students gathered on the front lawn to listen to readings from the Headmaster and the Head Girl and Head Boy. The moment was finished with the playing of ‘The Last Post and Reveille’ by two students on the trumpet from the balcony of the Debussy building and a minute’s silence.

On the day itself – Tuesday 11th November – our Head Boy and Head Girl recited the poem ‘Small Pain in My Chest’ by Michael Mack at a Remembrance Service in the Cathédrale Saint-Louis-des-Invalides which was organised by the Paris branch of the Royal British Legion. Please find a letter below from a parent in our community who attended.

Good Morning,

I am emailing to comment on how wonderful it was to have a BSP presence at the RBL Remembrance Service in the Cathédrale Saint-Louis-des-Invalides on Tuesday. We had the Head Boy and Girl both reciting the poem ‘Small pain in my Chest’ by Michael Mack. Absolutely splendid to hear!

I want to mention my son, J, and his friend, V. J was selected to represent the Scouts and was one of the proud Flag Bearers team; no easy task considering the weight of these flags. He proudly stood to attention for what most likely seemed like an inordinate amount of time.

V diplomatic capacity was supporting UK interest and most importantly her peers from school. A very proud moment for J’s mother and myself. After the service we attended the private reception at the British Ambassadors’ Residence and this was another truly wonderful occasion where we received a reading by Sir Michael Morpurgo (Finding Alfie). After the reading we sneaked a photo with the truly wonderful Sir Michael. The other guest of honour was His Majesty’s Ambassador to France, Sir Tom Drew KCMG.

I wanted to share a small glimpse of their lives with you.

Yours ever,

Mrs M
