Year 2 children have been studying Remembrance and what it means to remember. Having spent time researching Edith Cavell and Walter Tull, among others, we created our own acrostic poems based on Remember.
To complete this topic we went to visit the Arc de Triomphe, where the grave of the unknown soldier lies buried. We discussed what we had learned and stood for a minute of silence before spending time sketching the incredible designs and sculptures on the Arc.
Finally, it was time to go up, the children were very excited as we had to climb 284 spiral steps to emerge on top. At the top we spotted many Paris monuments and even the Fondation Louis Vuitton building where we had previously visited.
It was a fun trip and the children were exemplary in their behaviour, receiving comments from other visitors about how well behaved they were.
