The Gold team training in October was a little closer to home than in previous years as they took on the famous ’25 Bosses’ of Fontainebleau. This route of approximately 19km with 950m of ascent was developed in the late 1960s for Parisians to prepare for an alpine season, and crossing all 28 hills (it is a misnomer) is a significant challenge for one day.
The team started fast and made very few route finding mistakes, coping well with the rocky terrain and the maze of boulders. They ticked ‘bosses’ 22-28 and 1-19 before having to catch the bus back home. A very worthy attempt and hopefully one that will motivate them to try again.
In October, this year’s Silver candidates successfully completed two challenging days navigating through the Fontainebleau forest in preparation for their Assessed Expedition in March 2026.
Both Silver and Gold groups were supported by three members of staff.
