On Monday 13th October, the GCSE and A level Computer Science students joined forces and went to La Défense for a cinema outing. It was a rather important outing as the movie in question, Tron:Ares, was very much related to their chosen subject.

It is the final installment in a trilogy that started in 1982 with the overarching theme: there is life inside the computer. In this movie, the focus was on AI leaving the computer to take physical form and interact with our world.

The students were able to spot various computer science concepts take physical form within the movie such as: linear search, a hacker’s attack and an antivirus’ defence, training of neural networks, cryptography and encryption, reading files, data moving within the CPU, etc.

WWW (What Went Well) – It was a great way to not only watch a movie that sprouted interesting conversations, but also an impactful opportunity to meet with computer science students of different years.

EBI (Even Better If) – Even better if we had watched the three films one after the other!
