On Wednesday 25th June, nine of our Year 12 pupils set off to the Vosges mountains to start their Gold Assessed Expedition. Travelling independently by train they arrived at Ranspach, where the first campsite was an easy 100m walk from the station. They then set out on their journey by foot, taking in the villages of Kruth, Xonrupt and Mittlach before finishing back at their initial starting point.

Along the way they covered 77km with 3,140m of ascent; all the while carrying their equipment with them. This trip took place during the recent heatwave, making the Gold challenge even more difficult – we even resorted to a 5.30am wake up and 7am departure on the last day to limit the effects of the heat. All the members of the expedition learnt a lot about themselves along the way – ‘Type 2’ fun is best enjoyed retrospectively!

We are sure that they share our pride upon them completing such a character building and memorable journey.
