On Thursday June 26th we held our annual Fête de la Musique. Despite the unsettled weather which forced us into the Redgrave Hall, we were still able to enjoy a veritable feast of music during the afternoon.
The usual planning of three stages dotted around the campus was compressed into one large space, but we still had the three performance areas in the hall, decorated by each of the Houses. The Porthos stage had a focus on piano and instrumental music, the d’Artagnan stage on group performances and the Aramis stage hosted the vocal contributions.
All pupils who signed up to perform were able to show off their skills. Some were seasoned performers and others were first-time performers in public. No matter what their experience, all the performers can be proud of their efforts and their contribution towards this fantastic event.
We kicked off with the winning Year 9 group from each of the three classes performing their “Battle of the Bands” song. 9T with “Clint Eastwood” by the Gorillaz were voted as the winners by the 250 people present in the Hall, gaining over half of the vote. We then heard solo singers from both pupils and staff, guitarists and pianists, a string trio, small class groups with karaoke numbers, the school’s “summer” choir, the “summer” orchestra backing a staff singing group, with the whole event rounded off by the staff band performing “Be My Baby” by the Ronettes.
