The Community Shop lived up to its name on Saturday morning: more than 40 students, alumni, parents and staff gave up their time on Friday (including a visit from 20 students from the Maison St Charles children’s home) and Saturday to ensure that our final shop of the year was a huge success.
A success not only in terms of the positive atmosphere and the wide range of people who came from the BSP and the wider community, but also in the 1,000 euros we raised for our local Red Cross.
Val Joynes was a committed supporter of the Red Cross, as well as of community events at the BSP. She would have been very proud of what the community has achieved this year, and in particular, last Saturday. It was lovely to be joined by Val’s children and BSP alumni, Viv and Marc.
Over the course of the year, we have raised more than 10,000 euros for local and national charities, and donated tens of thousands of items of clothing to a wide range of organisations (a full breakdown of donations will appear in a future newsletter). This has required considerable organisation and time from staff and parents, leading a true community effort.
In particular, an enormous thank you to Rebecca Hilton for her outstanding support of the Community Shop. All of our achievements are linked to her kindness and thoughtfulness over the years. Likewise, there is a core group of parents (and members of the BSPCA) who are impressive role models for BSP students.
Many students have volunteered this year, with one student in particular who was well supported by a sizeable group of student volunteers last weekend.
