Following their school trip to the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace, Year 1 children have been learning about space and spaceships. They enjoyed singing ‘Madame Fusée’ and making amazing spaceship models – some were incredibly creative!

Before the holidays, the children celebrated ‘le premier avril’. Many were first tricked with strange articles about ‘Le poisson carré’ or ‘Comment marche un distributeur de boisson’, whilst others were told that the French Minister of Education had decided that all children must learn to write with both hands!

After a good laugh, they discovered the French tradition of making paper fish to secretly hang on people’s backs. Of course, they had to shout ‘Poisson d’avril!’ when the trick was revealed!

Year 1 children have started to learn about another French celebration: Pâques! They discovered the tradition of bells delivering chocolate eggs to gardens and had fun decorating Easter eggs with tissue paper and water. What a creative and colourful way to welcome Easter!

Year 3 children had a great time making ‘un fondant au chocolat’ as part of their food topic. They started by reading the recipe in French and then worked in teams to follow the instructions. A delicious way to learn!

After baking their ‘fondant au chocolat’, Year 3 children were lucky with the weather and were able to enjoy their delicious cake outside in the sun. To finish off the fun, they played a classic French playground game: ‘1, 2, 3, soleil!’

Thanks to their school trip to the Auvergne, Year 5 children had plenty to write about to their French pen pals! After practising writing in the past tense, they painted their own postcards to share their favourite memories.
