On Tuesday, GCSE and A Level Geographers, Politicians, Economists and Business students had the opportunity to discuss the current geo-political risks that transnational corporations like HSBC are facing with top geo-political risk analyst Helen Belopolsky.
Helen discussed several geo-political issues and their impacts, from the tariffs recently imposed by President Trump to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. She discussed the unpredictability of the global market and how companies are waiting to see what is going to happen next rather than risk investing.
Helen explained that despite the current challenges, many opportunities are also opening in the EU, Middle East and ASEAN countries. These range from a greater focus on renewable energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels to the increased importance of the Democratic Republic of Congo, South America and Australia in supplying rare earth minerals.
These insights will be tremendously useful to our students in their upcoming exams and in improving their general understanding of geo-political risks.
Many thanks to Helen for giving so generously of her time to discuss these important global issues with our students.
