Year 3 put their scientific learning about food groups and healthy eating to good use this week in our Design and Technology project on making sandwiches.

On Monday we tasted different food combinations incorporating protein, dairy, fruit and vegetables and healthy fats in order to decide on our preferred sandwich fillings.

The adults were very impressed by the children’s willingness to try new foods such as celery, radishes, feta cheese and balsamic vinegar.

One student’s favourite ingredient was apple, which he enjoyed with a selection of other foods, while another declared his 8-ingredient sandwich stack a winner. (It certainly included all the food groups!)

On Friday morning, the children used chopping and grating techniques to prepare their ingredients and put together their ideal sandwich.

If our Year 3 families are making picnics over the holidays, they can be confident that they have creative and innovative chefs on hand to help!
