In March 2022, we expanded our community outreach following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We now run a community shop for our local area, available to and supporting all families.
Last Friday, we welcomed 32 students aged between 5 and 13 from Maison St Charles, a children’s home in Le Vésinet. They shopped very happily with the help of BSP students and parents – it was probably one of the most worthwhile events we have arranged.
On Saturday morning, the Community Shop raised over €1,000 for Ukrainian charities, a sum to be added to the funds already raised this year.
We can now donate €1,000 to AMCFU (Aide Médicale Caritative France-Ukraine) and a further €2,000 to the Orikhiv Regional Centre for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children in the Zaporizhzhia region. This is a school that supports children who have lost their parents due to the war. Orikhiv is now on the frontline so the school has relocated to Tlumach, their third location since 2022.
We have also sent the school 15 boxes of clothes and toys. This has only been made possible by the many students, parents and staff who have volunteered so much of their time and made so many generous donations over the past three years. Thank you.
A special thank you also to one of our students in Year 9 who lived close to Tlumach before she was displaced in 2022. She has volunteered countless hours over the past three years and put us in contact with the orphanage in Tlumach.
The Orikhiv Centre for Children is also in desperate need of computers to support their school. If you have any computers that need a new home please think about donating them to the Community Shop. They will be checked before being sent, but the computers do need to be wiped clean of all data prior to donation. Thank you.
