The 6th Form Physics students had a fascinating visit to CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, this weekend. Among other highlights we saw the synchrocyclotron, which provided beams for CERN’s first experiments in particle and nuclear physics in 1957, and the ALICE detector, designed to study the conditions that are thought to have existed immediately after the Big Bang.
