Each year the Edexcel examination board has a theme upon which the A level paper is based.
This year it is the music industry. To give background and context to the theories taught, it has become something of a tradition that we reach out to the BSP community to share their specialist knowledge with the class.
This year we were fortunate to have two such speakers. Many of you will know Mr Murphy as the Head of Learning Support here at the BSP but in a previous career, he was an events manager on the live music scene, working on festivals with big name stars and national broadcasters such as Radio One. His insights into the ‘traditional’ music industry were both informative and really engaging.
We were also joined by Lisa Skeppner, a music partnerships manager at TikTok, who gave us a glimpse into how technology has transformed the music industry. Lisa has been with the company since 2019 and was on the Forbes “30 under 30” list for the entertainment industry in 2023. She also spoke briefly about careers in the tech industry, particularly for women, which is something she is keen to promote.
Thanks to both for giving their time so generously. If you have any experience in the music industry you feel would benefit our students, then please email the school and we will be in touch.
