Last week a group of A Level Computer Science students travelled to Bletchley Park – the iconic place where the Allies cracked the Enigma machine, ultimately reducing both the number of casualties and the duration of World War 2. Throughout the visit, the students were engaged in various decoding activities applying their knowledge of symmetric and asymmetric encryption.
The students also visited the National Radio Centre where they learned about radio communication in general and launching ham radio satellites into orbit in particular. They concluded their trip with a visit to the National Museum of Computing where they learned about the historic development of computers, memory systems and other hardware components.
Overall a fascinating trip for everyone – definitely one to be repeated.
