What beautiful weather Year 5 were lucky enough to have for their trip to the chateau of Fontainebleau! Following an introduction to the Renaissance and Francis I both in history and concurrently in their French lessons, Year 5 toured the Renaissance parts of the castle with an excellent guide, including parts of the castle not usually open for general tours such as the Galerie des Cerfs.

The children also explored the lovely castle grounds, following the theme of royal animals. We hunted for a variety of animals which were used as symbols for the King and court, finding them in all sorts of places such as at the top of towers (Le coq, symbol of France) or above archways (the salamander, personal symbol of Francis I). We will now be able to answer the question; was Francis I a Renaissance prince?
