Year 3 visit Ancient Egypt via the Louvre

Year 3 children visited Ancient Egypt on Thursday – via the Louvre – and, thanks to very enthusiastic guides, we were able to impart and develop our knowledge and went on to discover even more amazing Ancient Egypt facts. We saw lots of fabulous artefacts and the stories behind them. Did you know that mummified cats have been x-rayed and often only contained a cat’s paw or a leg? Did you also know that rich Egyptians were buried in mastabas with their clothes and furniture and that their families then continued to leave them food and water for the afterlife? Given that we previously learned about ancient food cold storage – or rather the lack of it – we could all imagine the smell! Olivia liked the mummified animals and Sebbie exclaimed, “I wish that we could have seen what was underneath the mummy bandages!” Sam liked the sphinx and its lion body representing strength and protection of the ancient pyramids. Our classroom learning was certainly enhanced by our visit and we are very thankful to those who supported our trip, especially the class parents.
