Student Investor winner

This is the first time ‘Student Investor’ has run as part of our new co-curricular programme and the uptake of eight pupils from across KS4 was very encouraging.

The programme coincided with the announcement of very gloomy economic news and share prices reacted accordingly. The subsequent ‘bear’ market  gave the phrase ‘your capital may go up as well as down’ real meaning as early losses were widespread and acute. However, the words of Warren Buffet (a favourite of the group) rang true, ‘Go long’. Those who followed this advice were rewarded by the recent increase in the S&P 500 index, and the vast majority of our pupils made a profit on their $100,000 virtual investment.

As this was a competition there had to be a winner and L. made the biggest return on her investment with a final total of $111,686 –  a great return for 10 weeks’ work. Well done! We look forward to welcoming more budding investors next time
