DofE End of Term Round-up
All of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants have been hard at work this past month.
On March 19th, the Bronze groups, plus a few Silver and Gold participants, took part in an Orienteering activity in Cergy. Using maps, compasses and pre-set checkpoints, they made their way around the Île de Loisirs de Cergy-Pontoise, honing their navigational skills.
Then, just as everyone was getting used to the warm weather in March, two groups travelled to Clécy in plunging temperatures and torrential rain: the Silver to complete their Assessed Expedition and the Gold to complete their Practice Expedition.
The students hiked through Clécy towards Caen on April 1st-3rd. The conditions were very challenging, with blustery snow showers on the Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the conditions were calm and sunny but cold, with lows of -2/-3 degrees on Saturday evening. All groups showed courage and determination. The Silver successfully completed their targets as they followed their pre-planned route cards and worked on their group’s aim. The Gold made progress preparing for their final venture, planned for June. Despite blisters and experiencing fatigue they were able to complete their practice expedition. And everyone enjoyed the spectacular scenery in “La Suisse Normande”.
