Year 5 Auvergne Trip
“Amazing!”, “Awesome!”, “The BEST TRIP EVER!”: These are some of the words used by Year 5 children to describe their visit to the Auvergne this week. From fun with friends on the bus journey, to first nights away from family, to bouncing in the crater of a real volcano, there was so much to experience.
On the first day, we enjoyed orienteering in the sunshine in the local park, and the children were delighted when Mr Hammond decided we couldn’t leave without experiencing the giant slides too.
On Tuesday, we climbed the Puy de Vichatel and learned from our guides about how volcanic activity has shaped the landscape of the Auvergne (and allowed a local landowner to get rich when he discovered the ingredients for dynamite in the soil of one of his fields). In the afternoon, we took the train to the top of the Puy de Dome and the children showed great stamina and determination on the long hike down.
On Wednesday we visited Vulcania, where learning about the volcanoes was mixed with the thrill of experiencing the flight of an eagle, witnessing different types of eruptions and being attacked by a few dragons.
The accompanying staff were very impressed with the children’s positive attitudes and motivation – they should be very proud of themselves!
