D&T in Year 7

This week, Year 7 pupils completed our annual bridge engineering project whereby they work in groups to design and build a bridge using only corrugated card, paper straws, and masking tape. The bridges then had weight added to them until they collapsed.

This year, we had two record breaking bridges. The previous maximum weight held by a bridge stood at 1.3kg. However, this time we had two bridges that managed to hold an extremely impressive 1.7kg each. When you consider that, if you simply place the corrugated card across the 60cm gap it will hold only 200g, the engineering of these bridges is Brunel-esque.

Congratulations to all Year 7s for their efforts and dedication to the task.
