Four of our students had the opportunity last weekend to get a taste of performing in a full orchestra and also being a soloist with them.
Carmelita, Meenahel, Morayo and Margherita were invited to take part in a morning workshop at the Conservatoire in Vincennes with the Rainbow Symphony Orchestra in Paris under the baton of John Dawkins, their Conductor and Musical Director, who is also our singing teacher at school.
The students have been working on the solo parts of the Bach Double Violin Concerto this term in their violin lessons with Nicola Davis and on Saturday morning enjoyed the thrill of performing these solo parts (as a small group) with a full symphony orchestra in accompaniment.
The workshop ended with them sitting in on a rehearsal of the 4th movement of Dvorak’s New World Symphony, which allowed them to get a real flavour of the workings of a full symphony orchestra.
Feedback from the students has been excellent and both tutors have spoken highly of the work done by them.
My thanks go to John and Nicola for organising this opportunity, to the pupils for their hard work and preparation and, of course, to parents for supporting the students in this project.
