Baking in Year 5
A delicious smell of baking has been drifting around the Junior School corridors this week as Year 5 made their first batches of bread in DT. The children measured their ingredients carefully using what they had learned about number lines in Maths to check their scales and measuring jugs, and enjoyed watching the yeast bubble as they poured on the water. After some energetic kneading, we left our loaves to rise before baking them in a hot oven.
The children took their bread home to taste. Vassily said that his was amazing – “it was so crunchy!” Sophie’s was “warm and soft”. Chiara liked hers because the texture was “crunchy and smooshy at the same time”. Markos even thought his was “just like the baker’s bread, but a tiny bit more salty”.
Many thanks to our parent volunteers for helping this activity to run smoothly!
