Carl meets Bear Grylls
On Tuesday, Carl (Year 9) was invited to meet Bear Grylls as part of a British Scouting Overseas celebration of achievement which involved Scout groups from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Nanjing, the Falkland Islands and Jakarta. As one of Bear’s Unsung Heroes in 2020 and later being a recipient of the Cornwell Scout Badge for bravery and fundraising for cancer charities during his own treatment, Carl chatted with Bear about his hopes and vision for his fundraising activities. Bear responded that ‘Carl’s story embodies Scouting’ and that ‘when you help other people, above all, you get a happy heart.’ During the closing Question and Answer section, Bear also described (in gruesome detail) his worst food experiences, shared his stories of times when he thought that his life was in danger and finally what he believes it means to be part of Scouting: ‘a worldwide force for good’.
