Year 3 Teeth Talk
As Year 3 are learning about teeth and healthy eating Mrs Gagnon kindly came to talk to the children about how to care for their teeth.
Before Mrs Gagnon came to work at The British School of Paris, she was a dentist in the Royal Air Force. She also taught dentistry at university and worked as a dentist in a prison.
She particularly talked to our Year 3 children about how much sugar is in certain foods and drinks, for example no sugar in water but two cubes in orange juice, only a sprinkling in broccoli but 9 cubes of sugar in a chocolate bar!
She also talked to the children about the link between sugar and tooth decay. This made the children think carefully about bringing a healthy vegetable or fruit snack to school rather than a sugary one.
She gave a fantastic demonstration about how to brush their teeth, one minute on the top set and one minute on the bottom set using circular or back to front movements whilst changing the position of the toothbrush so no teeth get missed!
She informed the children that dentists advise that you should brush your teeth twice a day… before breakfast and just before you go to bed.
