Year 7 & 8 STEM workshop
Ex-pupil Calum Taylor, who now has a successful career as an engineer for BP, came to the BSP with two of his colleagues. They spent a whole day working with pupils from Years 7 and 8 and it is safe to say that everybody had a lot of fun and learnt a great deal in the process.
Year 7 were put into design teams and challenged with designing an oil or gas rig jacket that would be placed at sea. This task, whilst teaching them about design and engineering, also taught them important lessons about budgeting, purchasing, revenue, and profitability.
Year 8 then learnt all about the Bloodhound land speed record attempt. The groups were tasked to conduct experiments by manufacturing a range of different aerodynamic noses. A house competition concluded this event in which Aramis were victorious.
Well done to all pupils who worked very well during the day and impressed the BP team with their work ethic and knowledge.
