The Power of Reading

Last year’s Junior school readathon raised over 3000 euros. The power of the written word has had a noticeable effect on learning at both La Meuy and Bak Kae schools in Cambodia. The money has been spent on installing fans in each of the schools (1000 dollars each) and on providing more books for both libraries. It regularly reaches above 35 degrees in the classroom so fans are certainly a welcome addition. Thank you.

We are furthermore very happy to announce that the BSP has committed to support the study of two of La Meuy’s former students, Tey Meas and Bleng Lynhen, both 19,  at university from September 2020. The girls currently help in the kindergarten and want to become teachers so they can carry on working in the village. They have been super helpful to us on our visits and the enjoyment and care they display with the pupils is inspiring and heart-warming. Tey and Bleng had the opportunity to go to school because of our support for UWS and now they will train and return to teach in the village to ensure other children have the same opportunities.
