Year 13 Trip to Cambodia

Just before half-term our second group of Year 13s left to work and live in La Meuy village. We spent 4 nights in a hammock and 5 days in the village; teaching lessons, singing, playing and having a lot of fun. We had a truly unforgettable experience and received such a warm welcome from the kids and the School’s director. The Head of United World Schools in Cambodia said that he had never seen such an energetic and enthusiastic group of students. They absolutely gave everything; enjoy these pictures and the album on Flickr, they tell a story of a school that is at the very heart of the community.  Children come to school not just to learn but to play, to run around, to use the library, to collect cleaner water and to use the toilet. It was just incredible for us to see a school that has pulled a community together, providing a place to dream and a place of hope.  So thank you to our community for enabling us to play our part.

“The time we spent at La Meuy was enlightening. Seeing the impact that just one school is able to have on the lives of so many children, and the passion with which the teachers go about their day was truly a beacon of hope for the future of society. The trip has made me ever so much more conscious of the privilege in which we live and has spurred me on to keep volunteering in similar ways.” – Matilde, Year 13
