DofE Bronze Expedition to Pierrefonds
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award’s Bronze participants have been quite busy during the first two months of school. Seventeen Bronze participants spent their regular meetings planning their Adventurous Journey expedition, one of four areas of the Award (the other three being: Service, Physical, and Skill). For their two day expedition, they set aims for the journey, working out how to cover approximately 16km each day. Finally, the three teams set off, camping at night and journeying during the day. Whilst there, all the teams learned additional skills including: navigating with only a compass and a map, basic first aid, outdoor cooking with a trangia, setting up camps, and packing their kits. Each team successfully navigated their way through the forests, with a supervisor the first day, and then on their own the second day. They all did a tremendous job and we congratulate them on completing such a demanding expedition.
