A Level exam success – 100 % pass rate
It is a long wait from the taking of A level exams to the release of results. Our Year 13s have waited patiently to see how they have done and today they have every right to be very proud of what they have achieved. The BSP’s 100% pass rate remains intact and our ability to secure excellent grades for pupils is obvious – one in three grades this year was an A* or A (35%). Last year’s excellent post appeal grades have already been matched and we anticipate improvements to the grades awarded in the coming weeks.
In the autumn many of our young people will depart for universities. This year sees pupils departing for institutions such as Imperial College and University College London, Durham, Bristol and University College London (to name but a few) where they will study a diverse range of academic subjects. Our Year 13s also secured places at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), Central St. Martin’s (London) and The Royal Welsh College of Music. We are also delighted to have seen students secure places at universities in The Netherlands (Utrecht, Groningen and Middelburg), Canada, the USA and also rather closer to home at the University of Lille and Science Po. We will also follow the progress of those students who have chosen to take a different path with equal pride, be it for a gap year or to pursue sport at the very highest level we wish them every success.
Exams are but one measure of a student’s ability. It is fitting that this excellent year group has done so very well in their final exams. This was a year in which we had been warned to expect grade volatility, it is to their very great credit that they have bettered the achievements of last year’s cohort. Linear A levels are a genuine academic challenge. Be in no doubt that the grades achieved today have been hard won. Perhaps even more impressive is that more than half of the year group sat their exams in a second language, such proficiency is perhaps an indication of what they will go on to achieve in the future. I have no doubt that these results are the next step of an exciting and rewarding journey.
