We are both thankful and honoured to have had Lucy Rew and Suganya Rajan running a fabulous day of tower building with our Year 7 cohort this week. Both Ms. Rew and Ms. Rajan are charted Civil Engineers and are representatives of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Each Year 7 class was tasked with constructing a free standing tower using only 20 pieces of spaghetti, one metre of string and a metre of adhesive tape, all in twenty five minutes. The goal was to build be the tallest tower possible that could support a single marshmallow without falling.
Following the practical the entire year convened in the refectory for a talk about the importance of civil engineering and some of the work carried out by Ms.Rew and Ms. Rajan. Our students were impeccably behaved and really seemed to engage with the talk judging by the number of questions asked.
