Year 5 Trip to the Auvergne

The Auvergne was amazing! We have just returned from this fabulous trip and every single Year 5 was devastated that it had to end.

The highlights were:

Hiking: Everybody enjoyed hiking. First we had a wonderful train ride to the top of Puy de Dome, enjoying a view of the Chaine de Puy. Year 5 were spellbound as there are 80 volcanoes in the range. After buying beautiful souvenirs, we slowly made our way down this amazing volcano in a hailstorm!A while later we went in the warm cosy bus and drove to the Puy de Vichatel. We hiked up this awesome volcano into the crater where some people even found scoria! We learnt that very fluid magma will turn into dark rock and thicker magma will turn into whiter rock.

Vulcania: All of us were charmed by our first sight of Vulcania. The amusement park was astonishing. We rode Réveil de Géants and experienced snakes at our feet, volcanoes exploding and we saw into the future. Then we gathered our courage and dared ourselves to face the most intense ride of the park: the Dragon ride! We went into the depths of a dragon world and investigated disturbances deep inside a volcano. We became explorers and went under water to discover the heart of a volcano and how it erupts deep in the sea. Finally we relaxed and took a ride with an eagle to see the Chaine de Puy with a bird’s eye view and watched how they live!
