Year 5 – Passeport Vélo
Children in Year 5 had the opportunity to earn a ‘Bike Safety Award’ by demonstrating their ability to cycle safely.
Organised by the local police, the small green pitch was transformed into a mini road system with road signs and a roundabout. In order to obtain their award, children then had to negotiate the course cycling safely and show at the end they could stop and look left, right and left again before proceeding.
They were skillful and enthusiastic at completing the course, here is what some of them had to say:
‘At the start I was unsure, but as we practised I got better. I would be more confident cycling now.’
‘To remind me to check for traffic, I say ‘crocodile’ and look left, right, left as I say each syllable.’
‘I enjoyed the roundabout because I had to concentrate more.’
