German Trip to Freiburg
Last week GCSE and A Level students went on a trip to Freiburg, Germany. We had an informative guided tour of the town where we learnt that during the Second World War 80 percent of Freiburg was destroyed through bombing. Today, Freiburg is one of the “greenest” towns in Europe. We saw many bicycles, cycle lanes, car free streets and eco housing.
The pupils sampled local German food at the market buying several sausages and cakes. They were also able to make their own German dish – a local delicacy called Maultaschen. The chef was particularly impressed by the pupils’ cooking skills and independence in making fresh pasta and potato salad. We of course also sampled the famous Black Forest gâteau!
We had the chance to visit the Black Forest where we saw the world’s biggest cuckoo clock and Germany’s highest waterfalls. Although the trip turned into a culinary feast, I think the pupils would all agree that Freiburg is a lovely city with warm, welcoming and relaxed people.
