Newspaper Day in Year 6
Last Friday, Year 6 set out to plan and produce newspapers containing news from around the world. Each pupil was assigned a different role such as editor, sub-editor, journalist or interviewer.
Before Newspaper Day, Year 6 were given lessons on how to plan, write and create newspapers. They learned how to lay out a page, what makes for good headlines and content, and how to use all of the iPad and Microsoft programmes needed.
Come Newspaper Day, Year 6 searched for and made notes on news items of the day. They sent them to the editors, who put them into a newspaper format. Year 6 then made puzzles, comics and even their own adverts. While Year 6 were working, Mr Peary came to visit and offer his expert advice.
Year 6 teacher Mrs Blake, enthusiastically reported that:
It was such a fun, action-packed day. The final newspapers were amazing!
An editor exclaimed, “It was a tough day, but we made it in the end.”
One sub-editor, overjoyed by the result, concluded, “We had a great opportunity to go out of our comfort zone and make a great, successful newspaper. It was really fun!”
