Year 3 Trip to the Château de Breteuil
Over the past couple of weeks Year 3 have been learning about traditional fairy tales. On Thursday, they visited the Château de Breteuil where Charles Perrault wrote many of the traditional tales we know today.
During their guided visit the children listened to many stories and anecdotes. They saw numerous portraits of French kings, different rooms and different times in history. It was fascinating to meet Marie-Antoinette, Louis XVIII or King Edward VII. We saw that the chair that Louis XVIII used had wheels as he was too fat to move around. The children were amazed when the guide said he could eat 50 oysters and 10 cold chickens in one meal!
After lunch, the children had time to walk around the park of the chateau. They had fun getting lost in a maze and seeing the various scenes from the fairytales. They heard about Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots and Blue Beard to name but a few.
