Learning at the Junior School has continued throughout the year, even during the last week of term. Key Stage 1 children had their first AI Literacy lessons, in which they learnt about the importance of understanding their emotions and of being kind and fair. Year 1 children discussed how ‘smart robots’ that use AI work. The children were asked if it would be fair for an AI computer to select the prize winners, to which Rose quickly responded, “It would not be fair because a computer is not our teacher and does not know how hard we have worked”.
Meanwhile, the Year 2 children worked with Class 5H, learning about machines that use AI and those that do not, as well as the things that only humans and AI can do. The children said that AI could be used to find quick answers in maths. Kiko added that “if we always use AI for maths our brains will not work as well”.
We also considered the circumstances in which it is and is not fair to use AI. The children were reminded that they are smart and that important decisions should always be made by humans.
