Children in Year 1 have been learning to understand what algorithms are by using the ‘Daisy the Dinosaur’ app on the iPads. They began by using control command cards to follow a set of instructions (algorithm) which told them to MOVE, JUMP, SPIN or TURN and everyone had great fun practising this with friends. They discovered that they could add REPEAT 5 as a command which was quicker to do when creating their series of instructions.
Finally, the children applied their knowledge by working through a set of challenges in the app, being particularly pleased when they realised that they could also make Daisy the Dinosaur SHRINK and GROW!
